Acerca de

Casa Snowapple MX is Snowapple Collective’s house of art and culture in Coyoacán, Mexico City. Created and run by women, the Casa inhabits a modernist building by architect Alejandro Prieto Posada, a key figure of 20th-century Mexican modernism, that was once home to composer Carlos Chávez, and it carries on that vocation as a creative refuge: a place of passage, work and encounter. Since opening its doors in 2021, the Casa has offered national and international artists time, space and community to research, develop, produce and share new work, guided by joyful activism and a commitment to gender equality, human rights and the leadership of women and LGBTQ+ artists.

Residencias

International residencies run year-round in three formats: open calls, collaborative projects with companies, institutions and independent stays. Each year, an open call invites artists and women- and LGBTQ+-led collectives from all disciplines to work around a shared theme: Wilderness in 2025 and 2026, Heroes in 2026 and 2027, with over 100 proposals received each year from around the world. Selected residents receive travel support, accommodation,  materials budget, a stipend and a public closing event. In the first half of 2026 alone, the Casa hosted 22 residents from 10 countries across 9 disciplines, including its 7th Writers’ Residency, which closes each year with the Fiesta Literaria, an evening of live readings, music and community developed in collaboration with Mexican publishers.

Festivales y programas públicos

Jardin Rouge Festival, the multidisciplinary festival of experimental performing and visual arts also held in Amsterdam and Paris; Xantolo, the Day of the Dead celebration inspired by the Huastecan tradition, which fills the house with music, theatre, dance, poetry and ofrendas and welcomes thousands of neighbors each year; and 8M Memoria Viva, a Women’s Month program on art, memory and human rights developed in collaborartion with local institutions like Cineteca Nacional, Centro de Cultura Digital and Museo de la Ciudad de México, with the participation of searching mothers and activists. All free of charge. Alongside them, a weekly program of classes, workshops, concerts and gatherings keeps the house open to its community all year long.
